Quarantined life has been a strange one. Most of us wouldn’t argue against that. And while it has boxed us up in our own homes for the foreseeable future, there are some benefits to be had from it. If you’re lucky enough to be around family members, it allows you to spend some real quality time with them. A situation you may not have had in a long time. It also lets you adjust your beauty routine. Not wearing makeup or getting dressed for work is probably a fantastic feeling. It may have seemed odd to not put makeup on in the morning. You might have even continued on with this routine, but as the days went by you probably no longer thought about how to go without makeup and just simply stopped putting it on. Of course, that doesn’t mean you should completely abandon any skincare regimen. You will need to provide your face with the kind of vitamins, nutrients, and moisture it needs to repair and rehab itself. Thankfully, you have some time to perfect your skincare regimen.
Here’s Our Skin Care Tips to Go Without Makeup
Wash Your Face
While the actual makeup application routine of your day probably went out the window long ago, you still need to wash your face. Wash your face at night at the very least. If you have especially dry skin and you haven’t been active you might be able to skip the morning wash, but if you’ve been outside at all, taking the kids for a walk, going for a jog, or dusting off the bicycle you haven’t used in years, you’ll want to make sure and add the morning wash as well. We love Skinmedica®’s Facial Cleanser or Alastin®’s Gentle Cleanser for this!
You should also use a toner or astringent after your face wash. This is especially the case if your skin is oily or you struggle with blackheads. This will help remove any excess oil that remains. Don’t overdo it, and do not do this more than once or twice a day. Anything further and you’ll be stripping so much oil from your skin the body will begin to overproduce oil, which in turn will lead to additional breakouts.
Moisturizer
You’ll want to apply a moisturizer to your skin, but at night and in the morning. Invest in a quality night cream that will help hydrate your face while you sleep. Hydration is key, especially if you’re eating more salty snacks while stuck in quarantine (to help offset this you’ll want to increase your water intake as well).
You should apply a moisturizer in the morning as well. However, you don’t need to use the same product in the morning as in the evening. In fact, you should probably focus on something that is lighter on your skin than your nighttime cream. If you apply a thicker cream to your face during the day you’ll find more dirt and gunk will stick, and it may cause an increase in oil production, which might block pores. Instead, use something light. Our Favorites are Skinmedica®’s Ultra Sheer Moistutizer (Oily Skin), Replenish Hydrating Cream (Normal Skin) or TNS Ceramide Cream for Dry Skin. SPF
When using a morning moisturizer you’ll want to use one that contains SPF, and we highly recommend the ALASTIN Hydratint SPF as a daily SPF plus a tint. You may be surprised as to how much time you’re spending outside. During a traditional workweek, you might have been stuck inside the office most of the time. But now, while at home, you might be going for longer walks, sitting outside, or doing more things for longer periods of time than what you did initially. This will expose your skin to more sunlight, which can dry out your skin faster and even damage your skin via UV rays. The SPF will help protect your skin and your complexion from all of this.
Exfoliate
You will want to exfoliate throughout the course of the quarantine. It isn’t something you need to do every day, but you should still focus on doing it a few times a week. There are chemical exfoliants derived from fruit enzymes like Skinmedica®’s AHA/BHA Cleansers that are not as harsh as other chemicals, yet will still help remove some traces of dead skin and clogged pores. Don’t leave these on your face too long as it can damage your skin and seep in deeper than the top layer, but this is a good thing to add to your skincare regimen.
One of the other skincare tips to go without makeup is you should follow the exfoliant with some kind of hydration mask. Your skin will be at its cleanest point following the exfoliation, which makes it the perfect time to apply a skin care mask. There are all kinds of great masks out there, but our favorite is the Black Mask by Revision. You just need to focus on a kind of mask that works well for your particular skin type. Some are designed to hydrate while others are designed to tighten. The beauty of being in quarantine is you have plenty of time to test them out. You might as well improve the quality of your skin while you go without makeup.
Get Some Exercise
It is so easy to just sit around the house and not do anything. However, don’t fall into that rut. You need to get some exercise every day. Whether this means following a workout video on YouTube or going for a jog, you need to get that heart pumping. Heart pumping will send more blood and oxygen throughout the rest of your body, which will help improve your skin from the inside out.
Skincare Services Will Resume, Soon!
Don’t worry. This quarantine will not last forever. While we don’t have a specific end date there will be a day when you go back to work and conduct the same business you did before all of this hit. When that time comes our team here at The Skin Center By CPS will be here to help. So whether you’re dying for a facial or you want to take advantage of one of our other services, we can’t wait to assist you. And in the meantime, if you have any questions, about skin care products or about services, do not hesitate to email us and ask. We’ll be happy to assist.
