Who Is a Good Candidate for Profound RF?

As skin ages, you may notice sagginess and a more wrinkled texture than you had in your youth. This is primarily due to a decline in elastin, hyaluronic acid, and collagen production that unfortunately happens to everyone over time.

We all age at different rates depending on our genetics, health, and lifestyle. Some opt for cosmetic treatments that not only treat but also slow the signs of aging; one of the highly sought-after non-surgical options is Profound® RF microneedling technology. One of the first questions you may have is whether it works. Your next question may be, “Who is a good candidate for Profound RF?”

How Profound RF Works

Profound® RF is an FDA-cleared treatment that works to rejuvenate the skin in two ways. Microneedling (MN) creates microchannels in the skin stimulating your skin’s natural healing process. Radio Frequency (RF) energy is heat that is delivered deep into the tissue. Combining these dual technologies increases your body’s production of three key elements for healthy skin.

Hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin, which in turn restores lost volume, reduces wrinkles, improves uneven texture, and increases firmness, thereby revealing a healthier, more youthful appearance.

Real Self” referred to Profound® RF as a “non-surgical facelift”, for the right candidate. In 2018, this relatively new procedure won the MyFaceMyBody Awards for “New Treatment of the Year.” Candela is the company behind Profound® RF, their Chief Commercial Officer at the time, Mary Trout, reacted to the award by saying: “The Profound® treatment is clinically proven to create up to five times the elastin, twice the collagen, and increased hyaluronic acid during nonsurgical treatment enabling practitioners to offer long-lasting outcomes.”

At The Skin Center by CPS, we offer several new proven beneficial treatments as well as long-established, recognized treatments for skin rejuvenation such as Profound Treatment. It may be used effectively on the face and body. It is most commonly used to:

  • Help tighten lax or mildly saggy skin around the jawline, jowls, cheek, and neck
  • On the body to improve the appearance of skin with cellulite, such as the thighs, buttocks, and belly
  • Sometimes, it is used to improve the appearance of scarring

Immediately after and up to one week after the treatment, you may notice temporary swelling, tingling, tenderness, redness, and even minor bruising. This is all part of the natural healing process.

Results are not immediately visible. Once the temporary swelling subsides, it may still take a few weeks to notice improvements in the skin texture. The results become more apparent over the next few weeks and even months as the skin cells turnover. Peak results often unfold about three months after the Profound® RF treatment. Some still experience improvements to the texture and appearance of their skin as much as six months after treatment.

The results are permanent, meaning your body produces new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Keep in mind, aging is natural and constant, so even though the skin is rejuvenated from a treatment, over time you will notice a loss of elasticity and other signs of aging.

Who is a Good Candidate for Profound® RF?

Profound® RF is less invasive than a surgical procedure like a facelift or mini facelift, so it is a good option for more people. Generally, you only need a local anesthetic to prevent discomfort during the procedure, and you may not need much downtime.

Many people experience mild bruising and swelling at the treatment area for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, but that is minimal compared to an operation.

A good candidate is someone who is generally healthy and doesn’t have a condition that may prevent their skin from healing well. Remember, Profound® RF causes controlled damage to stimulate healing. This is why results can take weeks and months to be fully revealed.

Also, the degree of tightening you seek is one thing to consider. If you notice early signs of jowling or sagginess, then Profound® RF may be a great option for you. On the other hand, if your skin is very saggy or you have more extreme jowls, you may not achieve enough noticeable tightening to feel satisfied, and a mini-facelift may be a better option.

Like many elective cosmetic procedures, Profound® RF isn’t recommended for women who are pregnant or trying to conceive. It simply hasn’t been tested enough to determine how safe it is for a developing fetus. If this applies to you, consider delaying your Profound® treatment.

Due to the use of radio frequency energy, Profound® RF may also not be appropriate for someone who uses certain medical devices like a pacemaker. Please talk candidly with your provider about your medical history, any diagnosed conditions, and ongoing treatments.

Schedule a Consultation to Learn More

The Skin Center by CPS offers Profound® RF and a range of other non-surgical cosmetic procedures for Charlotte-area residents who want to look their best. We are part of the Charlotte Plastic Surgery family and its legacy of providing excellent care and results since 1951.

The best way to learn whether Profound® RF is right for you is to schedule a consultation with an experienced provider. Sometimes people read about an effective cosmetic treatment and come for that treatment. During the consultation, your provider may determine another treatment to actually be a better option for you and the results you seek. So it helps to have an open mind and to talk frankly with your provider. Discuss your hopes, goals, and concerns. Also, be honest about any health issues, whether you are trying to conceive or your lifestyle. The goal is to ensure your safety first and to help you achieve the best results.

Your provider will also share before and after photographs to give you an accurate picture of what kind of results people have been able to experience. Realistic expectations are crucial for any cosmetic procedure, whether it is Botox® injections, Profound® RF, or even a surgical facelift.

During your consultation, be sure to ask any questions you may have about the procedure, achievable results, how to maintain your results, possible side effects, and what to expect. We are happy to provide all the information you need to help you make the right decision.
