However, while these two cosmetic services are often mentioned in the same breath, the two are not the same, nor do they provide the same results. Botox® Isn’t A Filler
One common misconception regarding Botox® is that it is a dermal filler. It isn’t. Botox® is an injectable and doesn’t add any fillers into the skin. You probably know Botox® best for its use in reducing, preventing or removing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It doesn’t fill these wrinkles though. Instead, it reduces the nerve signals giving out by muscles in the targeted areas. In a sense, it freezes the muscles in place. Due to this, the muscles do not contract and squeeze together. So how does this work with your lips? Well, with a Botox® Lip Flip a small amount of Botox® is injected into the top layer of muscles surrounding your lips. It is not a deep injection (a deep injection around your lips might prevent proper movement with your mouth, which is one reason why it is so important to have a professionally trained and certified service provider administer a Botox® Lip Flip). With the injection around the top layer of muscle, it will help your lips appear fuller. It will actually pull your lips slightly outward, giving you that plumper, fuller look.
You can visualize this by looking in the mirror and holding your lips together. Now, pretend like your lips are being slightly pushed outward as if you’re starting to say the word “prune.” When you co this you can feel how your lips begin to push outward while giving you that fuller, plumper look. All of this is achieved without actually adding any filler into your lips.
With the Botox® Lip Flip, the appearance isn’t as stark as a lip filler. This makes it the perfect option when you don’t want to drastically increase the fullness of your lips and you want just a bit more natural-looking volume.
Lip Fillers
With a lip filler you, as the name suggests, are filling the lips. Think of your lips as individual balloons. With fillers, you add more air to the balloons. So when you use lip fillers a smooth gel that is similar to other compounds naturally found in your body is directly injected into your lips. The gel is designed to mimic the tissue of your lips to help maintain the same viscosity and appearance of natural lips (you don’t want something harder or softer, otherwise you will have a visually aesthetic oddity that doesn’t exactly fit with the rest of your face).
Once you receive a lip filler you will be good to go for the next six months or so.
Botox® Lip Flip or Lip Fillers: Which Is Right For You?

However, it will depend on the kind of final result you’re interested in. With a Botox® Lip Flip, the injection creates an illusion of larger, fuller lips without actually giving you larger, fuller lips. It’s kind of like the push-up bra of the lip world. You’re not adding any size to the lips, it’s simply a slight difference in how the lips are presented. This is fantastic when you don’t want to go large with your lip plumping. It also works well if you have some minor wrinkles around your lips. By going with a Botox® Lip Flip you can kill two birds with one stone for the time being.
Now, if you want to significantly enhance the size of your lips you will want to go with lip fillers. There is no illusion at all when using a lip filler. Your lips will look larger, thicker, and plumper because they are larger, thicker, and plumper.

There are times when we see patients where they are not totally sure how large or plump they want their lips to be.
